Hi! I'm Chaitanya Joshi.

I am a Senior Photonic Systems Engineer at Voyant Photonics in New York City building FMCW Lidar Systems powered by Silicon Photonic chips. I got my Ph.D. from Cornell University in 2019 with research focused on optical frequency comb generation in silicon photonic devices as a part of Prof. Alexander Gaeta's Research Group .

Graduate Research Assistant

Optical frequency comb generation on silicon nitride based microresonator devices using tunable lasers and thermo-electric cooling.

Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA (October 2012 - May 2013)

Masters Thesis

"Temporal characterisation of optical frequency combs"

Designed and built a broadband two-photon absorption based interferometric autocorrelator to characterize femtosecond optical pulses. The autocorrelation was used to characterise femtosecond pulsed pump lasers for supercontinuum generation in silicon nitride waveguides.

Interests

Quizzing

I have been a avid Quizzer for nearly all my life. Starting from fierce contests in Bengaluru as a fourth grader through to the less fierce and significantly more relaxed pub quizzes in Ithaca and New York City as a graduate student.

Photography

Having acquired a quality camera after grad school, I have been dabbling in photography since. I post some of my better work on 500px and Instagram .

Swimming and Water Polo

I have been a swimmer since the age of 7. I used to swim competitively in high school. After a break of three years I returned to competition at the Inter IIT Aquatic Meets during undergrad also picking up the sport of Water Polo.

Football

I've been following football (soccer to some of you) 'properly' since I was about eleven. I support Manchester United with something bordering on fanaticism. Although I am not the most skilled of players of the game on an actual pitch, nothing beats the feeling of playing on a muddy field with your friends on a rainy day during the monsoon back home in India.
